New Brewery Arts – The Barrel Store – Cirencester

This was a project for New Brewery Arts Youth Hostel ‘The Barrel Store’ in Cirecester.
This was a collaboration with Chris Eckersley who has a close relationship with NBA centre. He produced the main design and I made it come to life. It was designed to fit at the bottom of a stunning spiral oak staircase. It will be used as a check in desk for the hostel. The lockable cupboard allowed an employee to lock away laptop and some personal belongings whilst the desk was unattended.

The barrel design made from solid oak, reflected the history of the building. The top and cupboard area are FSC rated birch plywood. All the oak was machined and jointed by me in my workshop. The plywood tops were CNC’d locally to ensure design curves were met, other plywood pieces were cut and made up in my workshop. The barrel was jointed and glued up in sections to create a half barrel. The plywood pieces were then jointed and fixed to the oak. All then sanded, routed and oiled with Osmo raw and clear.
